Why are the iommo mettalic different from other available acrylic paints?
- iommo paints are 100% acrylic with no fillers. Unlike many paints that contain fillers to increase volume, our paints are made from 100% acrylic resin. The result is a richer, more vibrant colour, smoother and more durable finish.
- Pigments from natural minerals. The pigments in our colours are derived from natural minerals, which give the paint a depth and richness that synthetic pigments cannot replicate. This also makes the paint less prone to fading.
- 100% non-toxic. Our paints are completely non-toxic and contains no lead, phthalates, or other harmful chemicals.
- Durable and easy to maintain. The acrylic resin makes paint extremely durable and easy to maintain. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth and resists scratches and stains.
- Wide range of colours. Our metallics are available in over 60 exceptional shades, from classic variations of gold and silver, neutral natural tones to bold and vibrant hues. This makes it easy to find the perfect colour for any creative project.
- Easy application, iommo metallic has a smooth, creamy consistency that makes it easy to apply. It can be applied with a brush, roller, or spray gun.

iommo paints are versatile and can be used on many surfaces. Here are a few examples:
- Furniture: Wood, MDF, laminate, particleboard, and more. Ideal for chests of drawers, tables, chairs, beds, and other furniture.
- Doors and windows: Entrance doors, interior doors, cupboard doors, window frames, and windowsills.
- Kitchen and bathroom: Cabinets, tiles, refrigerator doors cast iron & column radiators and more.

- Textiles: Yes, really! iommo is suitable for shoes, bags, canvases, fabric table lamps, and other textile surfaces.
- Plastic, metal, and ceramics: iommo also adheres to these surfaces. Try it on flower pots, metal decorations, tiles, and more.
Basically, if the surface is clean and firm, iommo paint will likely adhere! Just make sure you prepare the surface correctly according to our recommendations.
2. How should I prepare the surface before painting?
For a perfect, long-lasting result with iommo paints, proper surface preparation is crucial. Even the best paint is only as good as the surface it's applied to.
- General preparation: Remove all dirt, dust and old coatings of paint from the surface. You can use a WATER-BASED DEGREASER.
If the surface has a glossy finish, lightly sand it with 220-grit sandpaper to create a "tooth" that helps the paint adhere better.
If the surface is extremely glossy, highly detailed, or cannot be sanded, we recommend using one or two coats of a suitable acrylic primer to ensure even adhesion of the metallic paint and enhance the metallic effect.
- If working with metal, ensure it's free of rust and other impurities. You can use a metal cleaner or sandpaper. When painting metal or non-absorbent surfaces, we recommend using a suitable primer for metal. We suggest doing a test patch to see how good the results are. Thorough surface preparation will save you time and effort later and ensure a better and longer-lasting result. Don't be afraid to take your time with preparation!
3. When is it essential to use a primer in your painting projects?
Using primer can make a big difference in your painting projects. There are two main reasons you might need to prime before you apply iommo metallic paint: to help the paint stick better and to stop stains or wood tannins from showing through. Here’s when and how to use primer effectively!
- Blocking Stains and Tannins: If you have stains or wood tannins that might bleed through the paint, ZINSSER® B-I-N AQUA is your best choice. This is especially helpful for knotty pine wood.
- Getting Paint to Stick on Shiny Surfaces: For shiny surfaces like Thermofoil, Melamine, and some laminates where sanding isn’t an option, ZINSSER® BULLS EYE 1-2-3 is the way to go. This special primer acts like a super-strong adhesive, allowing you to paint those tricky surfaces without a hitch.
These two primers are our top recommendations, but feel free to use any water-based primers that are suitable for wood or metal on your projects. With these primers in hand, you're ready to tackle any painting project with confidence!
4. Can I Use iommo metallic outdoors?
Yes, iommo paints can be effectively applied to exterior surfaces. They are designed to resist water and UV radiation, making them durable against rain and preventing fading from sunlight. When using iommo metallic outdoors, keep the following in mind:
- Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from old paint to promote adhesion.
- Primer Application: Use a primer that’s recommended for your specific surface type.
- Coating: Apply 2-3 coats of metallic paint to achieve optimal durability and finish.
- Drying Time: Allow the paint to dry completely between coats for the best results.
- Weather Conditions: Avoid application during extreme temperatures or high humidity to ensure proper curing.
- Sealing: For long-term durability, consider sealing the painted surface with a high-quality exterior clear coat.
5. How Much Paint Will I Need for My Project?
If you’re wondering how much iommo paint to buy, each 1-liter jar covers about 7 square meters. Most projects need two coats of paint, but for walls and ceilings, we suggest three or four coats for the best results especially if you're using a roller or brush. For optimal application, consider using a professional foam roller..
If you are looking for a smooth finish. Spraying gives you the best and most even look. If you're using an HVLP spray gun with a 1.6mm or 1.8mm nozzle, you can add 25-30% water to the paint to help it flow better.
Just keep in mind that painting with a brush usually takes more paint than using a roller or spray. Coverage may vary slightly based on factors such as paint colour, the original surface texture, and your painting technique.
6. What is the shelf life of iommo paints?
If stored properly in closed container at room temperature, iommo paints have a shelf life of up to 5 years. To further extend its shelf life, we recommended placing a piece of food-grade plastic wrap under the lid before long-term storage. This will prevent air from reaching the paint and maintain its quality.
